Theory & Practical Tests
Getting Started
You need to have a valid Provisional Driving Licence for Great Britain and Northern Ireland.
Three months before your 17th birthday you can complete a D1 form to apply for your provisional licence from the Post Office and send it to the DVLA with your passport or birth certificate and a passport sized photo as identification.
Any vehicle you drive must be roadworthy with a current MOT, taxed and insured for you to drive.
You must be able to read an old style number plate from 20.5 metres away (about 5 car lengths). A new style number plate you must be able to read from 20 metres away.
If you require glasses or contact lenses to read the number plate you must wear them at all times when driving.
Once you receive your provisional licence through the post, you can book your first driving lesson for your birthday!
